Find Your Perfect Size [Guide]

Find Your Perfect Fit With Dandy & Son

When it comes to buying a new dress shirt for men the way it fits is incredibly important, but when shopping online, finding the right fit can be a challenge. So we have put together a full guide on how to make sure your new dress shirt will fit you perfectly.

In this blog article, we will guide you through the process of finding your perfect size. There are two different ways and approaches to find your perfect size, either your take your own measurements and compare it to our size chart, or you measure a shirt you already have which fits you perfectly.

Don't worry, we will go through both approaches. All you need is a tape measure and a couple of minutes to spare!

Please note that this guide can be applied to both our regular shirts and our tailored fit shirts. Just remember to make sure you match the measurements with the right size chart.

Approach 1: Take Your Measurements

Waist

To get the waist measurement, you measure across the narrowest part of the waist. Please note that this is a circumference measurement - so you will need to measure all the way around your waist.

Chest

To measure the chest measurement, you need to measure around the chest, just under the armpit (see image below). Please note that this is a circumference measurement - same as the waist.

Collar

Finding your perfect collar size is easier than you might think. All you need to do is take the tape measure and put it around your neck, roughly where a collar normally sits on your neck. To find your perfect and most comfortable fit, place two fingers between your neck and measuring tape when measuring.

One you have all your measurements, all you need to do is to check the Dandy & Son Size Chart!

Approach 2: Measure A Shirt You Already Own

The second approach to finding your perfect size can take a bit longer but is often the most accurate way of deciding what shirt you need. By measuring a shirt you already have, which fits you well, you should be able to find the perfect size for you by matching it.

Collar

Let's start with one of the most important features on a shirt, the collar. Take a shirt which has a collar that fits you perfectly, close all the buttons, and lay it flat. Then take a tape measure and measure the inside of the collar. Start at the top button on the front and go all the way around until you’re at the starting point again. There you have your collar size!

Sleeve

The sleeve measurement on a dress shirt for men can be stated in two different ways. Either it is the measurement of the actual sleeve, from shoulder down to end of the cuff (see first image below). Or it is measured from the centre point of the back, along the shoulder down to the end of the cuff (see second image below).

Either way is perfectly fine. just make sure you know which measurement is stated on the size chart. We at Dandy & Son have both measurements stated in our size charts.

Waist

The waist measurement on a dress shirt for men depends on the overall fit. A slim fit shirt will have a smaller measurement, compared to a regular fit. However, to get the waist measurement, you measure across the narrowest part of the waist (see first image below). Please note that this is a circumference measurement - so you will need to measure all the way around your waist.

Chest

To measure the chest measurement, you need to measure around the chest, starting at the bottom of the sleeve seams on your shirt, just by the armpit (see second image below). Please note that this is a circumference measurement - same as the waist.

Shoulder

The shoulder measurement is just like it sounds, from shoulder to shoulder (see first image below). Measure from one top of the sleeve head, to the other, across your shirt. Remember that you shirt has to be buttoned up to do this. Please note that this is to be measured flat and is not a circumference measurement.

Collar Shirt Length / Back

The length of a dress shirt for men is often measured from top to bottom of back (see second image below). This because the back piece can sometimes be longer, depending on the design. Start at the top of the collar, all the way to the hem, in a straight line.

Now that you have the measurements you can match them up with our size chart here
